Your files stay local

Clair scans the folders you choose and stores its settings and recent scan summaries on your Mac. File names, paths, contents, browsing history and hardware serial numbers are not sent as diagnostics. The latest scan is indexed in a local SQLite database in Clair’s application data directory; the next scan replaces it. Local activity summaries keep the latest 30 scans.

Optional accounts

Accounts store your name, email, creation date and a securely hashed password. If you choose Google login once configured, Clair receives your Google account identifier, verified email and profile name. Clair does not receive your Google password. Browser sessions use secure cookies; desktop credentials are encrypted using macOS secure storage.

Diagnostics are off by default

If you turn diagnostics on, Clair sends a random device identifier, operating system version, processor architecture, core count, installed memory capacity, Clair version and a bounded count of recent scans. It sends at opt-in and at most daily while running. We use this to understand device compatibility and improve releases. We do not collect file contents or record your screen.

Retention and deletion

Diagnostic events are retained for up to 30 days and pruned when the service receives requests. Your latest device summary stays until you delete it or your account. Turning diagnostics off also requests deletion of this device’s cloud records; if you are offline, use your account page to delete them when connected. You can export your account data and delete your account from the account page. Account deletion revokes linked desktop sessions. Your local files are unaffected.

Hosting and security logs

Account data is hosted on ChezaTech’s Hostinger service. Hostinger may process network addresses and request logs to operate its hosting infrastructure. Clair keeps hashed network-address rate-limit records for abuse protection, normally 15 minutes to one hour. Google handles authentication under its own privacy policy when you choose that provider. No advertising trackers are included.

Your controls

You can use local tools without an account. Disable automatic scans, diagnostics or start-at-login in Settings. Choose Quit Clair from the menu bar to stop the application. For questions about this preview, contact the ChezaTech operator who provided your download.
