Local folder scanning, a drill-down Space Lens, large and old file review, older cache and log review, SHA-256 duplicate matching, app removal to Trash, background launch-item inventory, CPU and memory readings, process snapshots, security-setting checks, a menu bar monitor and daily idle scanning.

Accounts support email/password, explicit desktop connection, limited opt-in diagnostics, data export and deletion. Google sign-in and signed Mac update integration are implemented but await account credentials.

Installation

Download the disk image, open it and drag Clair to Applications. This preview is not signed or notarized. macOS may block it; the regular trusted installation experience will be available after Apple signing is configured. We do not recommend disabling Gatekeeper. Keep the app in Applications if you enable start-at-login.

Scanning boundaries

Clair never cleans automatically. You review files and confirm a native dialog before they move to Trash. It maps all readable internal files, including hidden and development folders. Cloud entries are mapped from metadata without downloading their contents. Symbolic links, virtual devices and duplicate volume mount paths are skipped. Hard-linked files are counted once. Logical file sizes may differ from Finder’s allocated or purgeable space. The disk-backed index supports up to 10 million entries per scan and marks any partial results. System and cloud files remain read-only in Clair. Full Disk Access may be needed to read protected user folders. Duplicate comparison excludes empty files, cloud files and files larger than 2 GB.

What is still pending

Apple Developer signing and notarization are needed before seamless Mac updates can be enabled and tested. Google OAuth client credentials are needed before real Google login can be tested. No antivirus engine, cloud-file cleanup, third-party app update engine, browser-history eraser, password recovery, email verification, billing or Intel Mac installer is included in this preview.

Security checks report built-in macOS settings; they do not perform a malware scan. App removal preserves support files and user documents. Low background activity is a design target; measured results and limitations are recorded with the source release.
